Per our guidelines, we don’t screen unless patients have persistent urethritis or cervicitis.
We also don’t have an FDA approved test yet for resistance testing
We also do minocycline next as an option.
Oh I explain the pros and cons of treatment vs no treatment and explain that honestly we don’t know much about prolonged untreated cases but they are unlikely to cause long term complications etc. But yeah it’s difficult and frustrating
Yeah- I would agree with Joe. I didnt know much about this so had to read up. Might be worth reaching out to Dr. Amita Singh (was on Twitter but I don't see her on this app) in Edmonton to see if she has seen this? Can DM you her email..
and I KNOW we shouldn’t test asymptomatic people, please stop telling me that haha
But the fact is, in real life, I get referrals for cases who were tested:treated:failed for whatever reasons and I’m stuck with them.
Haha 😂 I saw that you got stuck with the tests done by others- i was referring to not doing anything about it being an option. I guess you could equate ASB to asymptomatic M gen. May be more like HSV? 😬
a) mostly asymptomatic « contact » screening per local guidelines, or screening without indication, yes (but I plead not guilty)
b) not suppose to, no. But the cases I see had t-o-c done by the ones asking consuls, and now I’m stuck with the results, and back to the initial question
Should we be looking for asymptomatic infection? Why screen people if no symptoms. Not sure yet if it should be a routine STI screen component. Does QC look for asx infection?

Asympatomatic M.genitalia
Same battle ? 🙃
(but with M.genitalium the impact on sexual life / fear of transmission is real….)
