As he said in the letter, Zane made it entirely on his own time, so the company could not legally claim it as their own.

Perhaps if they did legally make it theirs, even if so, the company no longer exists - and it may legally be Burnie Burns's rather than VIZ's since it would have belonged to RT.

Also, for the sentence to fit as a pangram the way "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" does, I think either Beowulf or Boarbatusk would fit for the lazy Grimm the quick red girl jumps over.

Perhaps. It seems the sentence was meant more to be cheeky and generally promote the font over doijg that. Since the letters are showcased at the top, they don't need to be repeated in the sentence at the bottom.

I didn't make the graphic. The font creator R Zane Rutledge replied to me with it.

To explain the link:
The font was given to the RWBY fandom member GLQv192, who had at one point made their own RWBY font after not liking the typical fanmade one. They then decided it should be public.

They're very coding-savvy and built their own website, where the font is hosted.

It is for non-commercial use - the creator Zane Rutledge's whole point was to offer it for non-commercial fan works, so feel free to use it as such
