We've hired a few that were primarily python or other languages and there's some growing pains with understanding packaging and the built in DI tooling. As was mentioned pairing goes a long way. We also have a few Mac folks who it took a bit to get setup with a decent environment

It’s funny you mention that. We are almost entirely Mac here. In my opinion, it’s the best choice because you can run Xcode locally to debug everything you write end to end like a user does.

It does seem like DI is somewhat hard for people coming from other languages.

Publishing, secrets and deployment varies widely and based upon the age of the project. So the learning curves involved with onboarding can be challenging.

For me it's been the balance of pair-programming vs giving them the tools to learn.

I've settled on regular check-ins via chat and calling if they seem stuck on a task. Communication is key.

Yeah I left the C# world for around 18mo, and went over to #Scala. I think I would have perceived the language as better if we paired up more on that team. As it was, I only really paired up when I was stuck, which was frequently.
