45 years of experience. No, seriously, I've been using Lightroom for over 12 years and I do lots of post-processing before I put a photo out for people to see. For me photography is more than just capturing an image, it's making that image into what I see in my mind's eye.

To do this often requires tweaking the saturation (I shoot with a flat profile) and vibrancy to how I think it should look. There's a fine line between 'bright and vibrant' and overdone. I try not to cross that. I also do lots of selective adjustments using masking.

While I use multiple adjustments, I find color curves do the heavy lifting for me now.
I can add lightness, but of course it doesn't really add brightness. I also make sure not to add too much saturation. If I add more than a little, it always looks overprocessed.
I have so much still to learn.

You've got a couple more years' experience in photography than I've been alive!
Since I'm only a hobbyist photographer and not a professional, I've never used Lightroom (I can't justify the rental business model over just buying software). GiMP gets me probably(?) most of what Lightroom would.
