I would have to disagree, the one thing artists have that non-artists and AI bros lack is an original thought process to filter the honed craft of whatever medium they are using through.

Like from what I learned in the few art history classes I took I was taught that the role of artists in society is to document people, place, and time. While derivative works fall into that category AI generated images fall outside that category.
It is fairly easy to see that AI image gen is very well in the legal (copyright terms) definition of a "derivative work" but it does not fall under the definition of the traditional role of an artist for a few reasons.
It is not made by a person, it falls under the same category as video from a security camera for crying out loud. It is not art. It never will be. It is theft of labor.
