There's been a lot of reporting on UK's problems with privatized water supply. Note that the current urgent problem is a financial one. But it was brought on by payouts to shareholders, heavy borrowing, and *failure to spend on critical infrastructure*.
People forget: for "free" markets to work we need three things: competition, information, and "no externalities". Where's the competition in water supply? Can you switch your supplier? If not: no competition.
