This whole thing is also supposed to be a metaphor for organized religion as well as capitalism, so I was also thinking of "tithing" and how it's *supposed* to be voluntary, buuuuut....
"We'll give you enough to barely survive, then convince you to give back more than you can, and punish you if you don't..."
Just the system at work, what can ya do? 😈
And if you fall short, to the Debtor's Rooms with you! Clearly it must be a moral failing on your part.
