For me, it's schedules. I have insomnia, my sleep schedule is all over the place. It's hard to keep a normal "9 to 5" kind of schedule.
Maybe I'm not the best choice if I have to be at my desk, but I can order and list inventory.
"Come in when you can and list all this inventory on our website."
Give me a timeframe and let me make my own schedule? I might be your top employee.
Why is hourly the only pay option?
"Post these products on our website. We expect X productivity for Y dollars weekly."
So many jobs can realistically be done just fine with less rigid work hours.
That's an accommodation. Employers just feel it's too hard and go "nah".
We put in a system that's easy enough for most people, but if there's one part that's not easy for you, then too bad, you are now excluded from the system.
It's not you, it's the system.
You are not merely the "monetary value" you can provide to the economy.
Your worth as a person and a member of society is not dependent on your ability to get a job.
