I'd be happy with either of these options. I have people in MN and have been there more often, but Chicago is also fun! It might even allow me to attend in the future if they do move.

Tiffany - sincerely - it's one of my greatest convention sadnesses that we haven't spent more time together. I'd be ecstatic if major shows are in places you feel generally safe and that we could make time to have a beverage and chat together.

Yeah they did a three year contract for Louisville after Reno. This will be year two. 2027 and beyond they’re scouting for.

I’ve, obviously, not been to GAMA. But I feel like that was a bad choice. I used to have fond memories of trips to Louisville growing up, we lived in Ohio. But after living there, I would never go back.

They should hold it in Madison, WI. Monona Terrace is a nice venue for a smaller convention like GAMA Expo. Nice town. It’s a couple blocks walk to food and drinks, but there are options. Or at least were 15 years ago.

folks keep bringing up WI - which I understand. I have a very deep personal connection to that state - and I hate it. Some of the worst racism and sexism I've experienced was there. Beyond that - they're very weak on abortion health care.

That is true. Anna will comment on other states, and I’ll remind her how terribly racist the state was, and the guys who worked under her who would ignore her and not call her by her title because they were “WELS” and didn’t want to listen to women, and her bosses wouldn’t do anything about it.

The people (especially the service workers at restaurants etc) were lovely. For me (a west coaster) it was a nightmare to fly in and out of. Plus the show had to be split between 2 buildings a block apart which was terrible (the weather was bad) for anyone with mobility challenges. I disliked it.

A completely personal choice, but Chicago is a pretty easy 3-4 hour drive for me. So it gets my vote. But I agree both better than KY.

Yeah. From my (west coast) perspective both have MANY MORE direct flight options so either is ok with me. I like both cities though I probably prefer Chicago overall.

I hold little-to-no hope that a West coast city would be selected. :(

GAMA Expo should be an event all industry folks feel like they can attend safely regardless of gender or race.

Human rights protections are just as important in selecting a city as a good venue and airport.

I'm "closer" to the folks at Gen Con and I have a sense of the complexities. Regardless - running these huge events (as you know) is difficult. I'm so glad they're working to find a more safe and hospitable location. Expo being in Chi or Min would be a huge step forward.

Not that what you're saying isn't important, or true, but for the show to be viable financially, it's got to make a small amount of money for the organization.

Reno was a disaster. I'm hoping for Minneapolis.

Absolutely. I’ve spoken before about the financial limiters for organizations. Expo doesn’t have the budget of larger conventions… on the other hand, it’s smaller than others so it opens up more venue options.
