Whenever they talk about “Medicare for all” in the US I always think people aren’t aware how terrible Medicare is and that we should actually be ashamed that it’s what we offer the elderly and disabled (at least for the next few months).

Maybe Medicare is terrible, but isn’t it a better solution than being forced to having expensive insurance and then be denied coverage for their profit?
You’re presenting a false binary. Those aren’t the only two options available. It actually doesn’t have to be either. Our current system could also be fixed to make it better than it is. I get tired of the argument that our current terrible system or a new terrible system are the only options.
The current system is broken IMHO, and it needs to be revamped completely.
We should aim to get rid of privatization and corporate profit from the healthcare system at all.
Any step forward that direction is something I will embrace, I know there are more option available.
Having direct experience with Medicare it is not a step forward—it is just replacing a terrible system with another terrible system. Medicare is not equal to universal healthcare. In the short term capping profits, limiting the % of claims that can be denied, eliminating AI and PBM would be a start.
