My Dad’s uncle and auntie were both fellows. I’m pretty sure they would not have approved of this. They were both altruists who donated most of their millions to ongoing scientific education.

Thanks! Sadly I suspect that is true though public controversy hopefully still isn’t something they will like much either, so we should keep up asking nonetheless (I partly say that too because the Royal Society is really just one issue: the general normalisation of Musk must stop).

What are you afraid of?

Let’s be clear: Society Fellowship doesn’t exist in isolation. You simply don’t get to just say that these are wider matters that don’t relate to the Society. If you cannot reject the above in the strongest possible terms, then shame on you.

I think we need some sort of petition against the Royal Society.. as a Design Engineer of 40 years standing I am disgusted that they continue to honour a far right individual with dubious views on science.. the RS should be the pinnacle of our profession not a safe harbour for Neo fascists😡

100% this is what’s coming down the line. I have seen reports of some institutions removing programmes that would be “woke”. Reframing language to avoid becoming a target. There needs to be a contingency in place for academics.
