Labelers are originally designed to be a moderation function, such as labelling posts from accounts known for misinformation. Then you subscribe and can have those posts labelled or even hidden.

They’ve since been co-opted for more fun things like game devs or engine

Sorry, how do you specify a label in a post (after subscribing to a labeler)? Just noticed that when I write a post, there's no option to put any labels/warnings? (not seeing a [Labels] button on web OR on Android app) 🤔

You don't specify anything for a particular post, they just show up on your profile. You need to contact the labeller, as instructed in the quoted posts. Some of the services are manually applied, some automatic.

You need to subscribe to the labelers that interest you to see them on profiles - there's too many for all to be visible by default.

Well, and accounts need to manually set their labels before anything shows up too, obviously.
