Well here a game idea: You're the craftsman who has to maintain and repair the gear of the heroes returning from the quest.
Sharpen the sword, restring the bow, fit the axe to a new handle, rebind the spellbook, relink the chainmail, patch up the boots, off you go! Next!

Regular sword maintenance is essential to maintaining the cutting edge or you are just snaking someone with a glorified baseball bat. Maybe not breakage but like a poorly maintained item gets a debuff to its stats, till you spend some time with a whetstone? (:O Sharpening mini game)
