Here's a start to a mathematical philosophers starter pack. I'm having a hard time keeping track of who is here these days. Apologies if I missed you. Let me know if you want to be added or removed, or if you know anyone else who should be on here.
Separately, I was just thinking it's weird that our paths have never crossed IRL⦠right? We've got to fix that. It'd be fun to have a beer or similar somewhere.
How would you define βmathematical philosopherβ? I see all kinds of researchers in there and Iβm curious whatβs the thing in common that makes them MPs
I would say someone who used mathematics to make a philosophical argument. I think most of the people included here have published in philosophy and used math in some way.
Ah interesting, thanks. I definitely do this in some of my work. I think of it as a kind of applied complexity theory/TCS. Sometimes itβs applied to AI/cognitive science problems, other times to cognitive science itself, the latter application having a substantial philosophy of science component.
I'm not sure how valid a mathematical argument would be in philosophy if we still do not understand all of our physical sciences yet. Quantum entanglement comes to mind.....
I'm not a philosopher, but my PhD is in mathematics and mathematical logic. I work (much) more recently in consciousness from a theoretical computer science perspective. I'd love to be included in your starter pack if appropriate. Many thanks! π
