I recommend Nikon Monarch M5 8x42’s for beginners because of the ELD glass, but the Nikon Prostaff P3 8x42’s are pretty good for half the price.

Binoculars and monoculars are a very common given to a thrift store in estate sales but never purchased item. I would browse your locals; the best one is the $10 one that gets you out there.

1. Budget really helps narrow down recommendations. That said, I think the Hawke Frontier ED X 8x42 are really good value at around £350 because of the quality/price ratio with added lifetime warranty. If you had £1000 to spend, you could get a second-hand Swarovski EL 8x42, with superior optics.

2. If you wear glasses, it will really pay to try out a few models with different eye relief specifications at a retailer. If you prioritise light weight, consider a 8x32 over a 8x42. If you don’t want to think abt any of that, pretty much any modern model will do a gd enough job to get you started.
