Obsidian continued. When you create a template (I did for Core Zettle Idea as in the video). I did command-O created the note. But it put them where all my notes go. So I had to use the finder to drag that "template" note into my template folder.
These are the plug-ins I found advice to use (not that I've used them all), plus I changed my Theme to Everforest so I could see some color. I haven't bothered with templates yet. Just bringing in ideas from various personal sources and focusing more on links.
But that would require the ability to import one book at a time going forward. I am not going to go in and erase 9K+ highlites in 400+books, one at a time to use their app. Disappointed. And I don't need them. Obsidian, now that I watched that tutorial, seems fab for what I want.
No need to clean anything up. Use your highlights as pointers. (I wonder if Kindle has a way to delete all highlights in a book if you want to start over with a different highlighting approach.)
I do want to. However, I don't even need to do that. My problem is that I screwed up my book list by deleting books (assuming I could add back). Dumb user. But not much help in recovery from an error. I don't seem to be able to add books back or import and get all books once deleted.
The idea for me is to encourage serendipity. A thought about puppets can send me back to relevant books to dip into again. I'm just going slow, enjoying making connections. My Readwise library is there as a resource.
Readwise updates dynamically as you add notes. I ignore my hundreds of books till I have a note that would benefit from a link. If a link reminds me that the book could be relevant to some writing, I'll just re-open on Kindle.
Oh! If I can ignore the past then it might work for me. However, I tried to get around it by deleting books. And it won't let me bring them back in. If they could delete my account and let me start new, I could use it properly. But they don't respond to my emails.
I'm still at the beginning of this venture, but so far I'm happy to have all my books there as a resource (I'd forgotten so many!). Since you're on a free trial, maybe you can sign out and begin again...? There might be a subReddit on Readwise you can check out.
And then there is this issue, the way I was highliting in kindle, well, is not useful fo keeping the highlites. I was using different colors to break down long complicated sentances or paragraphs in philosophy. I was not using them for research notes. They have a great app if I change my ways.
I told it to import and it brought all 9K+ in. ~400 books. Then it wants me to review them all. Not helping my productivity. So I thought, lets remove a lot of books from the list. Then add in the ones I want a book at a time. Nope. No can do.
I see readwise in the list. I have been having an awful time of using it. Reader is great for reading the web. I am on Day 2 of the 30 day trial. But using it for kindle highlites is painful. I have hundreds of kindle books ~900. And I have over 9K highlites. No granularity in importing highlites
So, I just set up Obsidian for note taking (free). I watched the following video which is a little outdated. The custom plugin sliding panes is gone but a built in setting stacked (???) exists.
I'll be interested in hearing what you think. I'm enjoying Obsidian because it has encouraged me to make lots of new connections among old notes and to revisit lots of books I lost track of. 🤓
I can see that happening. I'm wondering if mine will collapse under its own weight. Interesting that all the videos focus on setting it up. Few, if any, demonstrate how the glowing written products emerge.
Well, I installed Readwise and Reaadwise reader on the 30 free trial today. Integrating web reading and kindle as far as highliting. still a bit confusing trying to use it on my iphone. Not sure this will pan out.
The Daily Reviews are interesting reminders of past reading. Personally, I need lots of screen real estate, often with several windows open, to make creative connections. My grand thoughts don't like to be cramped, haha. 😆

Think they are useful?
The creation of a template is really just a note.
