But what is NATO without the US? Used to regard it as a Cold War relic then decided that was a bit simplistic. We need international organisations that promote peace and reconciliation not conflict. Am way out of my depth here.

Apparently there's an act of Congress passed in 2023 forbidding President from withdrawing US from NATO without a 2/3rds vote of the Senate in favour. Bill was sponsored by little Marco Rubio.
