I found it a difficult territory to traverse when writing on the topic in the last year or two. I think there is plenty of room in the playground for sure, but there are also risks of collisions, accidents, and misunderstandings!

I think my experiences in infants have really helped me frame my thinking on this. Child-led play is magic. And if you tie it in with the curriculum wonderful things can happen. Teach the topics, and the children will naturally extend the learning during play. #EdChatIE

1/2 By the time they get to me, Montessori is long forgotten. I do very guided discovery. Probably not liked in an inspection but have all the #cogscisci evidence to back me up. #edchatie

2/2 What I am definitely seeing, and it is echoed in marking LC exam papers, is an inability to answer a question asked. Particularly if the context is unfamiliar. Skills don’t matter if you can’t see the context in a question. #edchatie

Thanks for replying. This only occurred to me during today's chat. But it concerns me as my granddaughter has been attending Montessori schools up to grade 4—until her school burned down in LA. I want to assure my son she will be ok in public schools—which I have always favoured anyway

I should say that in Ireland Montessori stops at kindergarten. I then see them at the equivalent of Grade 7 for the first time.
