A Touch of Jen follows a toxic couples obsession with a woman’s instagram page. When they run into her in real life and end up taking a trip with her and a group of friends, things descend into madness and eventually psychedelic horror. Unlike anything I’ve read before, jaw droppingly good.
Mary: An Awakening of Terror was inspired by an alternate universe of Steven kings Carrie if she had made it into adulthood. One of my favorite genres “psycho biddy” and “good for her” explores how society throws away older women, and the wrath they deserve to incur. Mysterious and grotesque.
We Used To Live Here follows a queer couple who just bought a run down house for a great deal with intention of flipping it. After receiving a visitor who just. Won’t. Leave. Reality begins to unfurl. The dreadful suspense built in this novel is palpable. There are cryptic clues hidden throughout.
I don’t read a ton of sci-fi, but I’m glad I gave Leech a chance. I feel like I got smarter reading this book. The concept is absolutely brilliant. It’s a bit of Dune vibes, and a lot of Star Trek ideas about collective consciousness and host/symbiont. Hiron Ennes has a wonderful vocabulary.
That’s all for now but I have many more recs if people are interested! Follow me on StoryGraph if you please! And recommend me your favorite horror novels! https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/amisamil
