It doesn't apply to every scenario of fabric fold but it can tell our brain how thick the material is used or add depth, it can look thinner on the left while the one on right has a bit of thickness, it can really help when making the collars of tuxedos, jackets or blankets
When you look at a fold's edge you actually see the thickness of the fabric and the shape is more like a tube, there really isn't a line that goes through the depth of the fabric. So Kuro here breaks it up and implies the actual edge :)
