I enjoyed it as well, and as of Sunday, it was the top movie on the app worldwide. My sister did indeed watch the movie and then found Discovery and was captivated immediately on seeing Michelle Yeoh again. The hubris of this fandom is wild.
I do hope they continue doing TV movies for Star Trek and experiment and everything... but with fresh ideas and not recycle a series into a movie so they don't lose the material.

In general this says it all. The concept of a ragtag group of non-Starfleet colourful characters in a Trek world actually does have potential. But the result here is just so trope-y, with a smattering of good aspects like some of the cast.& it misses the opportunity for moral dilemmas in a big way.

It's trying to be funny, and it fails. It's trying to be dark and edgy, and it fails. It's toneless, poorly written, and terribly executed.
Please take Star Trek away from Alex Kurtzman.
