I went to a very patriotic school, they went all out on flag day. But we were told we didn’t have to say the pledge if we didn’t want to. I didn’t one day to see what would happen. Nothing. Which is how it should be.
Similar happened in my 1st grade class. I had a sub push in with me & most kids sat during the pledge, some didn’t say it & I exclaimed “play ball” after. She said that wasn’t right. I said “neither is the right & they know their rights & there’s no justice & that’s how we roll in this room”
I pledge to respect and uphold the principles of freedom, equality, and justice for all, honoring the diversity and dignity of every individual. I commit to building a nation where liberty is a right, and fairness a responsibility, for every citizen.
Truly amazing/saddening that this is still an issue. For refusing to stand and recite the pledge, I was sent to detention in high school in 1994. Even as a 14yo at that time, I thought it was bizarre and laughable. That was THIRTY-ONE YEARS AGO. 🤦🏻♂️
As a military brat, I came back to the states from Germany. Floridaaaa of all places just to get heih Hitler and the Elon musk salute. Once they started with the pledge of allegiance all I could do was laugh and scream hippocrits.
I went to high school in the 80s and about 1/3 of my homeroom used to sit, and about half didn't recite the pledge. Glad to hear kids still are exercising their right to choose.
Last time I stood for the pledge (didn't say it) was at my daughter's high school graduation. I didn't want to embarrass her, her class was only a dozen people or so. I would have stood out by sitting down.
I haven't actually said the PoA in decades. It absolutely must remain voluntary.
I’m proud to say I have never once in my life stood or uttered the nationalist propaganda BS. Teachers pressured me and shamed me. I never broke. I was an autistic kid whose hyper focus was history, and sociology. I knew better.
I used to not say it because of the whole "god" thing. Now I won't say it or stand for the anthem because I just don't believe that this county is worth standing for anymore.

This country is becoming the "Me First" society. Selfishness and anti-neighborly.
