I was nervous they would strike on Jan. 31. I think the surge of acceptance from keeping DEI made them decide to reach an agreement with the teamsters. They’ve got a good thing going.
Many people here live in horrible poverty, despite working full-time. We have areas of deep red Alabama which have ponds of raw sewage because there is not adequate plumbing. Hunger is rampant. Our rural hospitals are closing. And our government has decided to attack education and libraries.
The founder is on record as saying that he will murder the current CEO if they try to increase the price of the hotdog combo. if only the US Govt had similar watchdogs.
You will probably never leave. I don't shop much at Costco anymore because the closest one is 1 hour away (I shop online with them!) but I've been a continuous member since around 2008 and I will never quit.
I love Costco. Always have. My only issue is that they said they are “switching to Coca Cola” instead of putting in their own machines and having both. I know it’s possible. I do not know why a store wouldn’t do both in the food court if they could. Love them either way 🥰
Costco is exceptionally efficient in the way they buy and sell things. An exclusive contract is always going to have significantly more favorable terms, and that allows them to keep prices lower across the board.
If Al Gore had the power to take over as dictator to fight the climate apocalypse, I would support him. But make no mistake, it would still be a dictatorship…just doing what I want.
On the Rotisserie chickens too. Loss leaders. They absorb the loss and profit on the other shiny impulse buys we make in the store. Also, Costco makes most of its $$ on membership fees. Works for me.
Costco is smart enough to realise that some things should remain a loss leader so that other things can be done that are more than profitable enough to rake the profits in.
I’ve had my Costco card since they opened. Best investment I ever made as a single mother of 2. When my girls were little & money was short, I would take them on a trip to Costco & they would eat all the samples for an hour while we were there, this way they would have lunch. It was a blessing.

Is this the break the glass moment for university administrators who have been silent so far about the attack on science?
