But when you fall on your sword and decide that pushing back on bigotry and misogyny is your duty, it can be fun. If it's not too personal, @letsnotdate.bsky.social what is the best comeback you've had to anyone in person that tried to normalize racism, facism, or sexism?
Granted, it can be harder when it's a friend, relative, or colleague than an online "suitor" of sorts, but courage is courage, and there could be blowback. The ONLY thing white supremacists hate more than women and minorities is being challenged by white people on their ideology. Safety in numbers?
One thing that we can all get from @letsnotdate.bsky.social and the substack is how to get comfortable with the pushback. For example, deciding IN ADVANCE that's the plan. And then being prepared with what you'll say when someone makes a comment that you know (or suspect) is racist or misogynist.
It's still depressing as hell that we as a nation have known for about a decade that almost 40% of our population hates the mere existence of women and minorities enough that they need to act on it when someone who isn't white or straight is within eyeshot. And we did next to nothing to push back.
I 100% believe Trump was selected, not elected. I don't think the place exists where that oaf of a man picked up MORE voters- enough to sweep 7 swing states and win the popular vote. Rachel Maddow pointed out in July how often he spoke of "having all the votes" so nobody needed to vote anyway.
