we’re vol-evacuating bc i have covid and felt had a hard time breathing w the smoke in the air. please stay aware of mutual aid efforts as you see them, especially with the housing insecure. these tragedies create new unhoused people that grants pass will make it legal to incarcerate and brutalize

not to mention that so many of the firefighters, in a dept that just got cuts under karen bass, are incarcerated and being paid pennies, only to be very unlikely to be hired upon release. this is a massive systemic failure, please don’t only console the housed

Aside from the budget issue, prison labor comes back to the lack of respect we as a nation have for human life, which absolutely disgusts me. Especially as we move closer to Homelessness being a common cause for incarceration. Which ties back to your point about this fire causing more Homelessness.

Worth noting, because of the Politico article going around, maybe the discussion needs to be less about the money and more about the services that were cut. Even giving the benefit of the doubt of the historically bad conditions, cutting services in the face of deterioration is stupid at best.
