Oddly, I found myself referring to *myself* as an NPC a few years ago, before it had really taken off as a slur (or perhaps before I knew it was considered so.) I always lived with DMs and read a lot of fantasy, so the NPCs to me were having complete lives just... "Off camera" as it were.

Yes I was being very sloppy when I said "cavemen." See also Biden saying "neanderthal thinking." Neanderthals were smart. But I was trying to broadly illustrate that going from chaos to civilization is a process of agreeing to have rules not to hurt one another.
