As with all desktop OSs, you get out of it the amount of learning investment you put into it. You will always feel uncomfortable with something you're not already used to compared to something you know. Linux desktop excels for users who don't like the learning ladder climb ending so soon.
Few have the slightest idea how many instances of Linux they have in their set top box, WiFi router, TV set, baby monitor, web cams, doorbell etc. etc., as the control interfaces they use with these devices doesn't need them to know.
I would deduce my car has more than 1 operating system on different devices. Essential functions requiring a guaranteed response time for safety reasons probably does not share a processor with the in car entertainment system or maps and navigation.
tried installing mint & opensuse on my new laptop last night, and remembered the first problem with non-server linux - drivers.
640x480, no trackpad, no network... :D
going to try manjaro later.
