Attention aurora chasers! Have you ever "heard" the aurora? You can actually hear pulsating aurora in power lines like this video (sped up) shows! The exact reason? We don't know! That's why if YOU have a real-time video of pulsating aurora with strange sounds, we're interested!

Sounded like ham radio static!
Best explanation I've found is that what you're hearing is a localized, ground-level magnetic field flux phenomena, NOT the Aurora way overhead!
Now after reading it through your thread, it occurs to me that likely there were power lines proximate to where we were standing, which were resonating from the magnetic field flux.
Would make a great PhD research project for somebody!
Postulate now that…
Would be very interested to hear if you ever reach the point of validating this speculation, and
Keep the great Aurora photos coming!
If there are no power lines or other potential resonators nearby, like say, vehicles or fuel tanks or steel support structure, can you still hear the Aurora?
Where you lived...
Some 40 years ago, I saw a light show and could’ve sworn the sound was coming from directly overhead, ebbing and pulsing with the Aurora.
Maybe it was just...
Hopefully Vincent's research will be able to answer this question! 😀
