The honest poverty is the poverty of his upbringing in agricultural Ayrshire.

but bree, have you tried applying the inversion principle and asking what would happen if all of us were being intolerant of her? then wouldn't you look bad saying she should be banned?
We simply should have reached out to create a dialogue with the bad-faith actor seeking to do us real and lasting harm. Maybe even reach a compromise. 😌
That always works with the far right (or so I'm told I was only born on September 4th of this year).
In my experience with moderation elsewhere, getting a noxious person to leave on their own gives them less of an excuse to hold a grudge, gripe and whine once they're gone and undercuts the whole "censored" shit they pull. Blocking is the step after that.
For anyone new to BlueSky: "block early, block often" is the norm here precisely because it works. Trolls and bad faith people don't stay in places where they can't get attention.
Yeah, considering how much the terfs are malding about the label, actually banning them would get headlines in the guardian, daily mail, times, and economist.
Like, for example, my attitude toward Likud and Hamas is "a pox on both their houses", so I generally try to stay out of Israel-Palestine war convos. If I were on a site dominated by either side, they'd probably consider me an evil oppressor for not siding with them. But if I never talk about it?
I don't see why that would be cause for a ban. On the other hand, if I was regularly talking about it, put insults or links in my bio, or whatnot? Yeah, I'm creating discord then, should never have come in the first place (e.g. trying to cause conflict), and should be booted.
On the other hand, if there's no "site consensus" about an issue, or an issue that there's not a lot of passion about, that doesn't cause it to seem like a personal attack against the group... then it's not banworthy.
to some extent i am against moderation holding what people do off the platform against them on the platform, but in egregious cases like this my opinion changes

Plus I get to block this Naomi woman myself
Sorry sorry, I can't even keep my sarcasm up, it's so fucking dumb
On the other hand, if they go after a group *in their bio*... how is having them here good for the site?
