And was so good to see in person at AERA! π
1. Freeze on all new grants & continuing increments until "further notice". This was news to even rank-and-file POs.
2. I *believe* payment systems are still working though (seeking final confirmation, haven't heard otherwise).
See this Nature article:
3. Effective May 5, there's a 15% indirect rate for new NSF awards to institutions of higher education. https://www.nsf.gov/policies/document/indirect-cost-rate
This highly illegal statement was cute:
"This Policy Notice takes precedence over inconsistent policies and procedures set forth in the PAPPG."
5. Also asked Congress to reduce broadening participation programs by $1.13 billion, about a 80% cut relative to prior years: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf

Potentially more grants in other directorates.
I've heard multiple confirmed reports of NSF grantees now actually receiving these Round 3 of these notices.

And it can feel overwhelming. I've felt overwhelmed. Past 48 hours has been even faster pace than before.
But there's also power in community. Connect with others and plan your response. #WithoutNSF
