It's like having 7 suspected leaks and sending each of them a different day of the week to figure out who is leaking.

Except this is more subtle because it's using things that are not immediately apparent (2 spaces instead of 1).

With the right tech you can identify a leaker quickly.

Which means if you're going to share something you have to sanitize it (see the other comments/posts for that), and you have to make sure whomever you're sharing it with can compare to another leaked doc to make sure they're identical.

The second person is really only safe to publish leaked materials after confirming the documents are identical. Even then they should be generating their own copy of the document to minimize it being traced back.

This is to catch employees within the government departments working with the resistance – not anything about the general public. They put a customized hidden key for each employee –when it goes public they know who leaked it

Basically DOGE is using specific little details like two spaces instead of one at the end of a sentence after a period. People they suspect are leaking info are getting these 'tweaked' emails so if/when they're shared, DOGE knows who it was.

Yes, those “voting machines” remarks were sanewashed by the media “oh he wasn’t talking about this election.” BS. SCOTUS gave Trump the green light to do ANYTHING and not face prosecution. Garland failed us. He lets Musk break the law. GOP won’t protect us. We’re on our own.

But we all got the same email. Didn't we? There is no way they sent out 2 million different versions of the fork email. And even if they did, how will they know if someone ever received one of those shared versions? (Unless it is shown on TV or public source?) Maybe I just don't get it ...

Sending millions of unique copies of a particular email message, each with its own identifying signature encoded into invisible or whitespace characters, using an automated system is perfectly plausible. Such a system could be created in a few hours, and I'm sure they've been available for years.

I actually used this tactic in another organization I was part of that had a leak. It can be a pain in the ass depending on the org size you’re dealing with, but it (unfortunately, in this case) works really well.

Thanks for clarifying on this. I've read about this sort of tactic, but the way I read it, I was imagining it the other way, as though people were being identified by weird spacing choices in their own writing style.

They're just saying the Musk henchmen put little errors into their emails, it would have to be different ones for each recipient, so that if you leak the email to the press, they can figure out who leaked it.
