One thing I noticed I don’t start with when brainstorming is the stakes. I usually start with my MCs because they’re fun. This time, I have the barest bones ideas for MCs, but I’m putting them aside briefly to figure out my stakes. That’s really the meat of the story/query that needs to come across.
