Also people already default to they/them when talking about someone they haven’t met or don’t know yet when they don’t know if that person is a he or she.
Lots of places still explicitly use he/she (especially law I think).
They/them is definitely my go-to default when uncertain (or non-specific); "he/she" is both wrong and feels awkward to use compared to "they" (and male defaultism is just plain wrong).
I still sometimes see people complain about "they/them" as some "modern made-up thing", so it's nice to have an extra argument based on etymology and historical use to shut them up - hence the "singular 'you' is younger than singular 'they'" point.
Half of them aren’t even worth holding a conversation with because they will just regurgitate whatever BS joe rogane or whatever right wing nonsense influencer says.
