In their next term the ALP need to introduce some proper controls on media and social media ownership. Queensland and NT are in a Murdoch/ Meta stranglehold and it's a threat to democracy

Unfortunately, I can't see them making any headway with that. More than half a million people signed a petition calling for a Royal Commission into Australian media - a record.
In 2011, we had the 3rd highest level of media concentration, only China and Egypt outdid us and that's state owned.

By 2024, Australia had moved up to be second worst in the world, only Brazil's media concentration is worst - please note, I'm unclear on the metric used for that claim - possibly we're only referencing democracies in the most recent studies.

The thing that gets me is, he's not going to turn off the hate-hydrant for any politician who doesn't dance to his tune 24/7. We all know this. Dan Andrews got re-elected over & over again not just despite his refusal to pander to #Murdoch et al, but, in some part, specifically to spite those grubs.

I tend to think of Dan Andrews as a special case. And similar with nationwide Labor after Covid beginnings. Murdoch agitated otherwise the whole time but there are limits to his sway. And one of the limits was life-and-death pandemic where people rewarded govts that erred on side of safety.

That's a fair call, but I have some hope that people were realising all on their own that, when every policy is punitive and absolutely none of them are progressive, "the cruelty is the point" crew would have got their butts handed to them with or without a pandemic to remind them of their humanity.

I think we have to cite beginnings of Covid as 'special case'. The life-and-deathness of it fastened people's resolve. And no amount of agitation otherwise from Murdoch could change their voting intention. But it's back to 'normal' now with Murdoch support making absolutely hopeless LNP competitive.

Labor can be terrible bumblers but I think, in the main, they operate in good faith. Their intentions are to help...and to help the people who need it. The same cannot be said for LNP. They seem to operate in bad faith. And their intention is to help themselves and their 'mates'.

Makes me laugh. One loss by Labor is enough for #MSM calls to 'soul search' and 'return to sensible centre'. The loss of whole of mainland Australia, incl. Federal, elicits no calls for LNP to soul search nor to 'return to sensible centre'. If anything, the fault was LNP didn't go far enough right.

Labor have done some good things and are infinitely better than the alternative. But I think some of the disappointment with Albo has been that, after 9 years in LNP wasteland, people wanted a brave reformer and what they got was a careful manager.

I know. I'm guilty of it. It's ridiculous because I KNOW the only way they're going to get support is if people KNOW the good things they're doing and, with MSM failing to report facts (just saw a headline from Crikey, too, which was misleading sensationalism 😔) the #ALP needs stronger messaging...
