As a Veteran I could not agree more. This is beyond anything anyone could have imagined even Trump would do, yet he is doing it right in front of everyone's eyes. Truly terrible things will happen if this is not stopped now. I'm talking about our own military in a shooting war, against itself. 😐

Start counting Air Force or previous AF appointees. The AF has long been known as a hub of Evangelicals, to the extent that some were punished for proselytizing and pressuring their underling soldiers to join a particular church, to pray with the CO, etc. HUGE Q following in the AF, too. Not good.
Military personnel need to be very clear about what is going to be expected of them now and how that is going to radically change how they do their jobs, and it’s not for the better.
Military swears allegiance to the constitution, not the president, and "just following orders" is not an exceptable excuse for war crimes. I am worried about those in uniform who buy what he is selling. But many will not. Outcome will depend on a lot of unknowns. Hope it won't take another Kent St.

This is so important. Trump is defanging the military against external enemies and empowering the military against American citizens and residents at his whim. We need military leaders both active and inactive to help guide our troops to remember military values.
The JAGs are advisors to the Combatant Commanders, Commanding Officers, and leaders at different echelons. The ultimate decision to act on an order (legal or unlawful) would fall upon the leader and not the JAG.

This has been being turned into a grey area for a while with various “assisting/non-enforcement” deployments. I suspect this act won’t be the thing they let stand in their way when it comes down to it. After all, who’ll enforce it?

I hope so, too, but I’m not convinced they would. It really has been a long game of getting sympathetic folks to progress to upper ranks. I consider the military to be the wildcard in all this. I couldn’t have accurately predicted what the response would’ve been when I served, and I can’t now.
As a retired USN, I have worked with many brilliant and honorable service members across all services. Our focus has always been on the protecting the US from foreign adversaries. I cannot fathom getting our very diverse military to refocus and think our fellow Americans as the enemy w/o backlash.

No. Not for my husband’s VA office. Some agencies said it was voluntary and some, like DOD, said don’t respond because of potential sensitive info. Today during his Cabinet meeting Trump those that don’t respond are at risk. About 1 million out of 2.5 million Federal employees have replied so far.
I sent my email as an employer of the federal government with an interest in how it is operating. I listed my 5 things and how this administration is negatively impacting those accomplishments.
OK so. The US Armed Forces can be deployed to combat US citizens inside the US; incompetence and vindictiveness will hold sway; what else? These developments are nearly impossible to grasp. Maybe instead, examples from history - or from Putin - can help us imagine the potential misdeeds to come?

According to Pentagon insiders, purging the JAGs is the greatest threat. Once yes-men are in those positions, there will be no such thing as an “illegal” order.
