OSX's Spotlight index gets corrupted frequently. Apple's official solution to rebuild it is to go to the settings and add and remove a folder. It's basically the equivalent of IT Crowd's "Have You Tried Turning It Off And On Again" https://support.apple.com/en-ca/102321
