The fascinating thing about segregation is how white people still would not leave us alone. They kept invading our spaces for entertainment (clubs, sex, lynchings) and to punish our towns for thriving without them.

The June Cleaver fantasies are a lie. As soon as white ladies didn’t have Black domestic labor in the house any more, they had to turn to Mommy’s Little Helper to cope. And in some cases, cities tried to pass laws forcing Black women (who were trying to be SAHMs themselves) back in white households
Some people voted for that man bc they thought they’d be back in a big house with slaves and now their good government job is gone. Farm subsidies, gone. Union bargaining, gone.
Next time a person of color is vulnerable enough to tell you about a microaggression or something more blatant, before you say “I’m sure it wasn’t like that,” I want you to remember how willingly some people sacrificed everything to make sure Black people had nothing.
