Watching @mcuban.bsky.social on stage at the Wired Big Interview conference as he explains the basics of @costplusdrugs.com. I still argue that this is one of the biggest actual innovations in healthcare in years.

Universal health care.
You can't fix the parasitic health insurance companies.
Remove insurance companies from the puzzle.
Universal health care will also control hospital costs by eliminating the need for "for profit" hospital systems.
I’m all for universal healthcare-but there are entrenched interests-business interests..the same challenges were rampant in prescription drugs..if anyone can see a way to something better than what we have-think it would someone with experience dealing with these interests.
Cuban would need help. Big pharmacy dwarfs his wealth.
He needs allies who also have wealth and influence. And is interested in breaking the stranglehold the insurance industry has over the nation's health care.
I'd say not innovation as much as straight up being a force of nature against big Pharma's sick level of greed. Millions of dollars, perhaps billions? -- Bernie Sanders would know, ha! Bernie yelled & pointed for yrs & yrs about Pharma but Cuban just dug in & made some things happen, so gutsy
I love Cost Plus Drugs. I'm on Medicare with prescription insurance through United Health Care. UHC raised my monthly premium to $105. Cost Plus is around $10 per month.
I know he's saved me a bundle. I signed up with CostPlus Drugs as soon as I heard about them - couple of years ago now. It took a few tries for my Drs office to send in the prescriptions properly but they seem to have it down pat now.
They make generic medication and have a predetermined % of profit on their products. The markup is the same every time for every item and it's a fair rate.
The sad thing is, affordable medicine is an innovation to healthcare in the US while everywhere else the government told companies to stop price gouging people.
Not quite so fast. He’s just muscling into the pharmacy benefits manager gig.
He posted some BS the other day about laying the housing shortage on state RE associations over regulating
independent contractors squeezing them out of business saying it’s “interesting”.
“Look, a penny!”

But the Asshole Bilbro said nothing about the Commodities Modernization Act that created the Monopoly Money low credit / no credit, subprime loan derivatives and gaming of LIBOR rates that guaranteed profits regardless of position that lead to the financial crisis of 2008.
He’s a POS like all of em.
I might ask if you have just made the rounds at your local pharmacies, not Walmart etc, and ask for’ cash prices?’
I started that 2 years ago and 95$ Walmart prescriptions are now no more than 15$, cash.
I signed up, but the meds I take are not on the list. He had said he would be working on getting more medication on his website. It’s was very easy. I like him Cuban is a good man.
I want people here who are not aware to understand how much money you can save going through Cost Plus Drugs...Tell any friends or family about this if they take medication because it could really really help them out. This is why he's the only billionaire I like:
Chuck Feeney (just passed away last year) “gave away his fortune in secret for many years, choosing to be anonymous, and donating more than $8 billion in his lifetime” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Feeney
Often held up as an ‘exception that proves/tests the rule’ that there are no good billionaires
They need to be taxed far higher because they are fucking dangerous to any democratic society. We're seeing it right now with Elon buying a President and the numerous billionaires Trump is putting in his cabinet who have near zero experience
Absolutely. Try as you might, you can’t even spend all that money in one life (https://neal.fun/spend/), so what does that leave you with but to use it on whatever causes you’ve personally, individually heard of. It’s fundamentally undemocratic- it’s plutocracy.
Cuban is asked about this being a for profit not "altruistic" and he says "how much more money do I need? I'm not trying to go to Mars." Then basically says it's more fun to just "fuck up the healthcare industry"
It’s a great line but I suspect his model doesn’t actually get better pricing from BigPharma so the only thing it fucks up is the already struggling retail pharmacy industry which will only make it harder for most people to get meds.
It's no joke. I am on a med my insurance wouldn't cover that cost $150 for 90 days. I am lucky enough that I *can* afford it, but who wants to pay that much? Looked into Cost Plus Drugs and the same exact script was $14.
Except that the user-end customer service is horrid. They don’t even guarantee the quality of dispensers on meds that cost thousands of dollars a shot.

I realize it's more slightly more complex than that, but not that much.
We managed to get a 3-month supply of all of those drugs for $150, shipping included.
Cost Plus drugs is a breakthrough.

And most billionaires are just black holes.🕳️
@mcuban.bsky.social "yeah, I know who he is..."
He who shouts loudest, shouts into the void.
It has put the social back into social media.
