The AT protocol is robust enough that you don't need a separate network for IG or Tiktok antics. You just need filtration by media type and a more heavily built out base network in terms of media and post support

Key reason TikTok so successful is that they have a music library for creators to add soundtrack to their videos. Now for Bluesky to replicate that it will need a legal team, expensive, to go out and negotiate with the music label companies. Who can found that?

that might be a big part of some of it and some huge memes, but that's less the case now. There's a lot of incisive vlogging, cooking, art, etc. and even just soundclip memes from tiktok era too, and little of it thrives on licensed song clips/memes

Fair creator monetisation would be one of the main features to develop. It certainly was a foundational feature of TikToks success. ATProto potentially supports proper account (DID) and content identification (ISCC) as well as engangement tracking. But this still has to be done.

I wouldn’t have a problem with ads here if video quality and duration improve, and there’s a revenue share model. I think the most important thing would be stringent ad quality guidelines and enforcement.

I suspect a federated system (system of systems) allows for coexistence of mixed business models. Video will dominate bandwidth and storage costs and can drive server/CDN costs/choices. Ad tech ain't cheap either.

VoiceOver for iOS accessibility is still frustratingly lacking. The culture and emphasis on alt text really is appreciated, but the BlueSky app in its current form really isn’t navigable. Here’s to hoping for improvements this year with whatever other features are in the pipeline.

It still needs improvement. It reminds me of Instagram when watching a video, but I found TikTok’s layout more convenient with everything positioned to the side.
