If there is a third gender-neutral bathroom, cis people could show solidarity and help to avoid forced outing of trans men by using said same bathroom. Plus it would show the ridiculousness of bathroom rules to begin with. But I fear the non-existence of such a third bathroom is the first issue.
And as the author of the article rightly points out, when the only gender neutral facilities on site are also the only accessible ones, forcing trans people to use them comes at a cost to disabled workers. Creating a real conflict of rights in order to solve a completely fucking imaginary one.
Like as it happens I am both trans and disabled (there are a lot of us, oppression really fucks you up) and at times I do need the accessible loo because of mobility issues. For instance on bad pain days when the other loos are behind a load of stairs.
And while I fully support my able bodied trans family using whatever facilities they have to to access public life, it's kind of fucked if I can't get into the only bog I can use because of ridiculous cis prejudice and scaremognering.
That being said, non-disabled trans people, did you know you can just buy keys for the accessible toilets online? They're called Radar keys and you can get a pack of 3 for like a fiver. Every trans person should have one as long as this bullshit continues.
