I have seen this movie at least 14 times since my brother took me to see it in the theater. Shaped my dumb sense of humour ever since! RIP and thanks for the laughs.
Oddly enough, The ZAZ guys had nothing to do with Airplane II, but I think it was a perfectly good sequel with a ton of great quotable jokes. I remember in the commentary to Airplane, one (or more?) of them said they'd never seen it.
I agree about Robert Stack - his dead serious delivery just made the movie. I understand he refused the script originally because he thought from the parts he read that it was a stupid, poorly written drama and they had to explain the whole thing was a joke.
"Do you know what it's like to fall in the mud and get kicked... in the head... with an iron boot? Of course you don't, no one does. It never happens. Sorry, Ted, that's a dumb question... skip that."
Maybe the highest density of jokes-per-minute ever achieved. I just re-watched it last night with my 9-year-old and my 13-year-old, everyone was laughing at different things for different reasons, but it's still a banger across generations!
