i think a lot of former liberals went conservative. But that shift was masked by how many NDPers went Liberal.

My riding - Toronto Danforth, had a 66% vote for the Liberals. Those are NDP votes going lib.

My question: was their increase in votes this time because of disaffected Liberals voting Conservative or a reflection of post-pandemic radicalization of hippie types a la what we saw in BC this time where NDP ridings swung all the way to the right (same voters)

I had someone from Vancouver Island comment that the Cons won due to vote splitting. They came right up the middle of the other two parties numbers wise with just enough votes to take the ridings.

well in some ridings the vote went from orange to blue it seems (because somehow people think the Cons are now the party of the working class, just like America)

i think the vote went orange -> red, red-> Blue. It's a double shift, but because the Liberal vote was propped up by NDP, it only looks like NDP and Cons changed. (just my 2 cents)

That’s my riding too, and I had the same question. My guess - and this is 109% based on my mechanic having a big Con election sign up at the garage - is that it’s more a disaffected working class thing.

my $0.02: I think the NDP ceding its ground as an *actual* working class party begat conservative gains. this may be a mix of 1) traditional working class cultural politics being a bit conservative; 2) progressives resenting liberals more than conservatives.
