Stick with it. Find others. Share ur work and most importantly feel proud of yourself and have a mindset that while u create to be in a zone. Music. Lighting. Snacks easy to eat w fingers etc. your work will flow.
Watercolors kicked my ass for the first two...three years. I'm kinda okay with my stuff now and might even show it to the world. Kudos for doing that outta the gate.
You're doing great. Counted cross stitch is just a matter of counting accurately and placing your stitches on the canvas as they are placed on the chart.
In the words of Jake the Dog, βSucking at something is the first step to being kind of good at something.β Youβll get there and from the looks of it youβre off to a really strong start
One time, I went into a cross stitching shop and they had this huge 1.5 meter still-life "painting" hung up behind the counter. Cross stitching is so fun
For cross stitch patterns, try moving your design over to Stitch fiddle. It lets you highlight row by row if you want and you can even put symbols on the similar colors to tell them apart easier! I might try Aseprite for drawing my patterns out though.
One of the great things about cross stitch is that even if you mess up, itβs really easy to take out the stitches and do it again! I mess up all the time but itβs no big deal and you canβt even tell on the finished product. π
That is absolutely so good to know. I appreciate you so much for sharing that with me. Makes me a little more confident into trying to do my butterfly. βΊοΈ
cheering for you to find the right moment to start as well!
and for now i can say what calms me is that i feel like even if i should mess up, there are always ways to undo it again:)
It's addicting. If you are following a pattern, get a magnet board to put the pattern on. There is also a ruler that goes with it and strips of magnet so you can keep track of where you are. I started in cross stitch, then moved to needlepoint. I still have one that I need to finish the background!
That is a big one to start with! Are you marking the stitches out? I'd also recommend converting it into a pattern, it's easier to count than straight up pixels. Looking great though!
I am a Cross stitcher, helps with all the stress and anxiety since I can focus on that instead of the daily stressor! Enjoy the finished products year after year!so many choices with fabrics and patterns! I do the counted for the variety. Have tried kits/stamped and I get too confused⦠Enjoy!
I tried cross stitch once... hated it. Lol. But I love almost every other art medium. Well, except knitting... my hands just can't figure it out for some reason. Lol.
Friends kept telling me to learn to knit when I quit smoking. So I learned to knit. I feel very much like an outsider because I just don't enjoy it. I would love to find a pass time that I do enjoy. Reading is about the only pass time I have found I enjoy.
Maybe I should give that a try. My eyes get tired reading and I work at a computer all day, so sometimes reading just isn't...it, you know? Can I teach myself to crochet?
You can, there are great YouTube videos and books you can follow. It looks like you are already familiar with multiple fiber art techniques, so it'll probably be pretty easy for you to pick up. :) let me know if you need help with anything!
I used to do counted Crosstitch all the time it is frustrating but the pictures come out really very pretty. My wrist gave out so I had to give it up. My sister still does beautiful things theyβre like patterns mathematical patterns. She says it calms her down Iβm not buying it.
Planning to give cross stitch a go myself when I have some spare cash to buy supplies. Pay day can't come fast enough!
Looking good so far. π₯°
I was thinking of maybe starting with a kit that had the fabric printed with the patten to start with just so I can get the hang of stitching. π
Amazing. Me and my 17 year were just saying we wanted to learn too. Just inspired us to...JUST DO IT! :) i wish you luck on this beautiful journey of a hobby.
Many people have been defeated by cross stitch. Do not be afraid to give up.
But also yayyy!!!! If it's reassuring!! Sometimes crafts are about your hands working so your brain can sift thru shit.
Here's one of my cards to add to your beautiful world.
I did this before it's very relaxing! But requires a lot of patience and you will loose some threads if you go faster (because you'll make knots and then will have to redo that spot)
Great progress so far, so do you have to manually count to the square that requires the x-stitch? Explain the process to me, keep us updated on your journey!
It looks great and it's going to be beautiful when it's finished. I love counted cross stitch. I change colors to keep the stitches contiguous. and slide new threads under several stitches to anchor them. The back is neat with zero knots.
It took me many, many years and failed hobbies (piano, knitting, even chopping veggies) to learn that my hands are simply not dextrous. Enjoy your new hobby!
One trick I do is pencil in the squares for the color Iβm using. So like if your using the darker blue use a pencil to mark the squares youβll stitch. Itβs pencil so you can see it after finished.
three at the moment! :D
at the very beginning I was not aware that one does not just take the string as it is (and had some trouble because it was too thick)
God bless you for attempting cross stitch. I knit, crochet, and embroider but could not for the life of me enjoy cross-stitching. All my attempts ended in the trash because I found it so frustrating.
It's addicting for sure. Try 22 count next time if you haven't already. I started out with 14 count and simple images. The longer I did it the more challenging I wanted it to be. I was finally drawing my own images on graph paper.
It definitely is! Between work and family I donβt work on it as much as Iβd like to but I am almost done with cross stitches. Then comes the back stitch and beads. So for me, probably a few more months(ish) lol
Beginnings are always humbling but will lead you to triumph if you stick with it! Itβs going to be beautiful and looks fantastic so far! Keep going πΈ
Love this!! Trying to learn pixel art actually to make cross stitch patterns I keep having ideas for, so this delights me to see what others come up with on that π₯°ππππ

I'd have to have that piece of paper in my hand.
I hope your journey brings you joy!

Ask me how I know hahaha
Tacking guidelines to correspond with the blue grid could help.
Best of luck to both of us!
how many threads are you stitching with?

Stamped cross stitch is like coloring a picture
Counted cross stitch is DRAWING the picture.
All of it is art.
Thanks for askingπ₯°
