I think the Right have never understood that what you say online is just as subject to the law as anything you say elsewhere. It's like the online world is meant to be some new libertarian frontier. Isn’t that a change which was brought about by quite recent legislation though? It’s a long time ago, but I recall the 90s internet being very free.

I don't think so. The 1990s internet just felt very free, as though the law had not yet encroached on it, but as far as I know the law still applied. There have however been legal/statutory clarifications and extensions since then.

Yes, the Right only claim the right to not be civil in a civil and civilised world. They want the right to offend but without the right not to offend. Their whole thrust is to cause offence instead of to promote and bolster the cause of Liberty and freedom.
