Morning.

You are allowed to install a new gas boiler without planning permission.
I think I’ll write to my local councillor, he always wants to know how he can make a difference!
I'd also like to see the grant extended to air to air systems if you have solar: our cooling would be free from the sun.
We need an army of advocates to inspire people.
Nesta’s initiative for visiting a heat pump is great, but we need to find ways of ensuring people can find it and engage.
Having lots of people advocate for something which is out of reach for many can be counterproductive
The narrative does matter too though, and it’s a big job to shift it!
My frustration is how much our media companies have lent into the anti-HP narrative and that will be hard to combat.
I’m not anti advocating but do think significant focus is needed removing barriers
Seems to be the trendy thing to do
Kea has now blocked me.

For the handful of people who need to do 500mile in one go ICE cars are still available
If I had a battery that lasted 200 miles, but didn’t cost my left kidney to charge I’d be happy.
Public charging is too dear, so currently I would prefer a 400 mile battery that costs me £8 to fill at home.
People didn't buy the short range versions of EVs. Eg Kona and ioniq 5s so they've bloated them for gen 2. And they only released a long range ioniq 6 too.
Be whilst I agree with you as an experienced EV owner, the non EV owning public first getting 1 think they need range
Just a theory
A cheaper ioniq 6 would be nice, happy to have less range because I know it could charge quickly.
Does sacrifice benefit of cheaper home charging going further on a big trip though
2023 was roughly in line with 2022, only a modest increase. We won’t have full data for 2024 yet, but the early signs are installations increased a fair bit - roughly doubling on some estimates
Perhaps encouraging the boiler makers to sell ASHP in a similar way to the car EV transition, but with the makers and not by dictat?
Boilers obviously much cheaper upfront for customers. Existing installers have many incentives to recommend boilers. What does profit / margin look like for installers here?
We did some analysis on wages, which were slightly lower for HP installers. But not that many advertised, salaried jobs in the sector tbh.
So in short - we don’t really know!
