My pulmonologist put hepa filters in his waiting room, I still wait in my car to be called. They think I’m ocd but I’m a retired nurse, I monitored hospital acquired infection for decades, I’ve had 2 heart attack & moderate copd, 4 major surgeries, a lung nodule & autoimmune hepatitis.

Yes, you never know until you ask. I wear a mask and asked my GP's receptionist if it's okay if I waited outside in the carpark behind. She was so kind, her face lit up and she treats me like a VIP because I try to practice IP&C. ☺️ She even came out to check on me. What a champion.

I use a Hepa filter in my D and A consulting room (which is like a cell- NO window) and I wear an N95. Also did that at my last job with LOTS of Covid pos patients- I have not had it yet. Off to a first birthday party- likely more risky than my workplace.

I trust that if you take the precautions you do, you have been correctly fit tested to that mask; if not, you are kind of wasting your time. N99 properly fitted (or FFP3) off more protection.

I can assure you even without fitting they are vastly superior to a blue baggy. That's why most CC ppl wear them & don't catch COVID or colds or Flu. We've been doing it for 4 yrs.

I know that🙄 I’ve been fit testing hospital staff for 5 years, it wasn’t the point I was making. If you are hospital staff,especially, it is very important that you are fit tested to a specific mask, ideally FFP3, which offer the best level of protection. Don’t assume a mask will protect you.

I've never had a fit test even though I've been to covid patients' rooms in a hospital as a med student. And I haven't heard anyone doing fit testing here. I wish they did..

Hi, that is surprising. It’s not just Covid either. To be fair it’s only due to Covid that the importance of fitting FFP3 masks has been highlighted. Staff here must be fitted to at least one make/model of ffp3 mask, if engaging with patients where there’s a risk of aerosol infection

Despite it's flaws, the rather strange study showed that there was still a benefit in HEPAs even though they were just in rooms rather than shared spaces like corridors & the dining room.

A couple of decades ago I worked at Maricopa County juvenile court center. There was a staff person who got sick all the time he finally forced an investigation. It turns out they hadn’t changed the filters in a juvenile detention center for at least 8 to 10 years.

My husbands aged care home gets them out when they have Covid. They are used in the corridors of the infected unit, the resident with COVID’s room,at my suggestion in the nurses stations/staff rooms. My husband has his own in his room on always.. or when I’m there. They move them from ACF to ACF

Did they try to tackle an airborne disease without using a multilayered strategy… like respies and filtration (to deal with long and close range transmission) thus setting up each individual intervention to fail, when they were always recommended to be used together?

They’ll be holding up this study as an excuse for the Australian government to do nothing… when in fact they should be doing a multilayered strategy in aged care to slow down the killing.
