Albany/ Troy NY is relatively inexpensive, day trip distance to three large cities, in a safe as possible state, and has a pretty large queer community. There's enough going on that I've enjoyed my time here for the last 7 years, I'm moving on now but mostly just because I feel like I know everybody

I live in New England, and it is generally very safe-feeling regarding queerness and transness, but the cost of living is very high. MA has good social programs and healthcare coverage (free or subsidized, found through the Mass Health Connector).
