Good to note here that Beshear isn’t proposing any policy that would prevent Kentucky from providing surgeries to trans people in state custody.

He’s responding to claims from some Republicans that he and his administration are trying to “force” taxpayers into funding them.

yes it is very grim that in theory incarcerated individuals have better health coverage than other people. Maybe that’s an indication that health care sucks not that trans inmates have it too good.

The proposal by the KY DOC is to meet compliance with fed law. Republicans are cherry picking information to attack democratic leaders, again. Beshear's full quote stated that he did not support “all” of the changes in the proposal, not that he doesn't support medical care for LGBTQ prisoners.

He was referencing the bill Republicans passed which banned gender affirming care to all law abiding Kentucky citizens under 18. All care, not just surgeries, which means that prisoners in Kentucky actually receive better medical care than our children.
