I did an acrylic base color layer, then applied thinned oils on top for the shadow color and tone. Then lifted it away using a kneaded eraser to reveal my lights. Then went back in with acrylics and colored pencil
Haha I know that feeling, I wish I could do X with another medium! I adore how freeflowing and weird watercolor washes are and oils... ummm... do what you tell them to? Which isn't always what I want :D

In his case the oil is so thinned out that the fat over lean rule doesn’t really apply. We’re talking like a 70/30 gamsol/oil mix, so afaik delamination doesn’t occur. That painting was done…7 years ago? And nothing yet.
