That was one night. The Democrats are awful this year. Their communication is not unified. They aren't creative in getting their message out. The two senior leaders are not liked by the party's base. And there's no motivational energy from the base to help them get back up. The base has lost faith.
Yes there are some older leaders within the Democratic Party who probably should’ve retired a while back. It is time for some of the younger folks to be the faces of the party.
But I’m not going to shiv the whole party and hold them to an unrealistic standard just because of the old folks.
My issue is creativity, not age. If they hired veteran comedy writers, lefty influencers, and journalists to run their socials, there would be immediate improvement in their messaging. They could provide the talking points to the leaders the party insists need to stay in place.
There's something to "behaving as if" (bear with me) - the Dems in the Senate are doing it with hearings. No, they can't hold official hearings, but they are behaving as if they have that authority and are holding them in conference rooms.
Dems can behave as if they own the House - have their own shadow impeachment. Why not? Dems can behave as if they hold power. Get leaders speaking every day, there ARE leaders outside of Congress. Get with it! (And I'm waiting on a rapid response ad to the budget from those who keep asking for $$).
The best thing for Dems to do is what they’re doing. They’re doing everything they can with what little power they hold in the minority.
It’s best the light shines on the shitshow of the GOP instead of the Dems screaming into the wind. Maga’s rage is on the GOP, not the Dems.
Name them and tell us what they should do. Lots of complaints about the nefarious corporate Democrats but never any better ideas. They should SCREAM LOUDER! That'll help.
I agree, but when they don’t believe the Dems that the GOP is bad because they have stopped from from their worst impulses then the voters didn’t believe them. Hence why it’s time for them to touch the hot stove.
Their confidence in taking the House in the midterms is astonishing. After 10 years of Trump, and now the GOP going full angry authoritarian, the Democrats still think they can easily fundraise and win back seats like they did in 2018.
There really isn’t much they can do.
Legislative branch can only impeach - and that won’t be successful.
It’s gonna have to be lawsuits - judicial branch, not legislative.
I admit they could be more visible, but ALL mine have been VERY good about IRL & virtual town halls, and social media. They do have to do other things than be in front of a camera (like MTG is all the time 🤮).
One of my Senators has been getting out there, but the other and my rep have been quiet as far as I can tell. I'm in a "safe" blue state but they/we shouldn't be complacent.
Correction/addition: Senate can maybe block Musk’s military contracts …

Middle class Americans seem content with it from my little bubble. Hope I’m wrong, but it feels like my friends and neighbors think a little fascism might get them some more golf and Vrbo time…I don’t get their math, but that’s what it sounds like (in hushed tones) in my neck of the woods.

How would you describe the unanimous Democratic opposition to this lawlessness evident in the House vote last night?
It exacerbates the already existing problem of people not understanding how government works nor what opposition parties can realistically accomplish.
But I’m not going to shiv the whole party and hold them to an unrealistic standard just because of the old folks.
